Gotham: The Complete Fifth Season Bluray Review

Releasing Tuesday, July 9, Gotham: The Complete Fifth Season will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Bluray Combo I reviewed in this Post.  The opinions I share  are our own.

Gotham: The Complete Fifth and Final Season features an all-star cast lead by Ben McKenzie (The O.C., Southland), Donal Logue (Grounded for Life, Vikings), David Mazouz (Touch), Sean Pertwee (Elementary), Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead), Erin Richards (The Quiet Ones), Camren Bicondova (Gotham Stories), Cory Michael Smith (Carol) and Chris Chalk (12 Years a Slave). Shane West (A Walk to Remember) is also introduced as the iconic DC Super-Villain, Bane for the final season. Developed by Bruno Heller, the series is executive produced by Heller, Danny Cannon and John Stephens. Based on the DC characters, Gotham is produced by Warner Bros. Television.

This has been a story 5 years in the making.  As we said from our first season review, this is not the Batman story but is set within the Batman universe.  Viewers and fans see what led up to the events that helped define and create Batman.  This is Jim Gordon’s story and shows how integral he is to not only Gotham City but the entire DC universe.  There could be no Batman without Jim Gordon.

We (the fans) have been on this ride from day one as we see our favorite villains rise from nothing to revered characters within this universe.  The last two seasons has seen Gotham City seemingly cutoff from the world and one man and his team fight to bring peace back and acceptance back into the world.

I am not sure a better cast could have been picked for any role.  With such a plethora of available characters, the writing team took full advantage without letting the story or characters suffer.  Seeing the transformation from an orphan to young man fighting to help bring justice was great.  If anything, this story could have gone on longer and wouldn’t have suffered.

Ben McKenzie as Lt. James Gordon proved again that he is the heart of this show and made it such a fun experience to watch and go on these weekly adventures.  The interaction between Ben and costar Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock is some of our favorite on TV and arguably the best of any superhero themed show.

This bluray release is fantastic and worthy to be in any collection.

Let’s talk special features:

Gotham Season 5: Best Moments at NY Comic Con, 2018 – This is and has always been one of our favorite additions.  Fans will enjoy seeing these actors in a relaxed setting talking about bringing these iconic characters to the screen.

Modern Mythology:  Fear not Batman fans, this is the special feature for you.  Through the eyes of the producers and cast, this piece explores the final chapter of the series as the show pushes Bruce Wayne to finally accept his destiny, the mantle of The Dark Knight.

Villains: Modes of Persuasion – In-depth exploration of you favorite DC Super-Villains.

and much more….

This is a show that will stand the test of time and has earned its spot among shows of this genre.
