It is a great time to be a comic/superhero fan. In the past 4 years fans have been able to enjoy the adventures of Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and now Supergirl. Bringing a character like Supergirl to the small screen every week is no small feat. Supergirl is in great hands since it was created for TV by Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg. The real question is will Supergirl take flight or crash and burn.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Bluray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.
Supergirl flies into your home on Bluray, DVD and HD Digital on 08/09/16. First you need the right person to don this cape and Melissa Benoist wears it proudly as Kara Danvers/Supergirl. The first season had something for everyone. With great casting like, Mehcad Brooks (James Olsen), Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant), Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers) and Jenna Dewan Tatum (Lucy Lane) to name a few. The first season had great guest stars like Helen Slater, Dean Cain, Glenn Morshower, Laura Vandervoort and Grant Gustin.
This show in its first season took the time to develop the characters and is very well written without leaving the audience bored. The first season really explores what it takes to become a hero. Throughout the first season we learn it isn’t as easy as one might expect and that made for an enjoyable viewing experience. Season 1 is comprised of 20 episodes and here are our top 3 favorites. The Pilot, every superhero needs a good origin story and the pilot sets the tone for the series and first season.
Episode 18 Worlds Finest, this may have been our favorite episode from the entire first season. With the first crossover episode featuring The Flash (Grant Gustin) who has arrived from a parallel universe and aids Supergirl in her fight against Banshee and Livewire. This was a lot of fun to watch and opens up new possibilities in the future. Episode 12 Bizarro, anyone familiar with the DC universe will know who/what Bizarro is. An alternate version of our hero twisted and all and only the hero can properly deal with. This was a great episode and really shows the layers to Supergirl. All in all a great start to a new show and will leave the viewer satisfied and wanting more.
Now for the desert, AKA Special Features. This box set is filled with some great goodies, including deleted scenes, a gag reel (hilarious), the panel from 2015’s San Diego Comic Con with the cast (love that they included this) and special features like The Man from Mars and A World Left Behind. As we all know the DC universe is pretty massive and it is great to see it live up to the hype each week. If you are fan of the super hero genre then this is the set for you.
