WWE NXT, September 2, 2025

NXT kicked off its post-Heatwave momentum with a loaded Tuesday night from Orlando—setting the stage for the looming Homecoming and No Mercy events. From the onset, the brand leaned hard into building future contenders, hard-hitting in-ring action, and injecting unpredictable moments (Josh Briggs’ Undertaker tease!) to keep the vibe electric. The women’s division got a strong opening, the Speed Tournament began in earnest, and the main event spotlighted both established champions and rising factions. Overall, a smart blend of pace, stakes, and crowd engagement.

1️⃣
Jaida Parker vs. Lash Legend

This fast-paced opener pitted two women who’ve seen their stock rise steadily. Parker and Legend brought grit and intensity from bell to barricade. Legend’s arsenal of size and power gave her an early edge—she unleashed a crushing backbreaker, then assaulted Parker outside with a big boot and Lash Extension through the announce table. Parker valiantly rebounded, even hitting a hopeful Hipnotic post-match… but Legend had already scored clean with another Lash Extension in the ring. Parker’s last-ditch counter through the guardrail suggested this rivalry isn’t done. A sharp opener that delivered pace, physicality, and set emotional stakes for future rematches.

Je’Von Evans Promo Interrupted by Josh Briggs

Evans came out seeking closure after falling short in his title shot at Heatwave and owning up to missteps. The somber tone turned electric when the Titantron flickered with a motorcycle… the fabled Undertaker gong echoed… the crowd erupted… only for Josh Briggs to emerge, riding the moment—and then turning it into a fervent reaction against him as he fired off mock gongs and then chokeslammed Evans through a steel chair. That twist was both hilarious and brutal, extracting maximum heat—with mixed boos and cheers for Briggs’ gall—and firmly planted seeds for a new feud in the midcard.

2️⃣

Candice LeRae vs. Xia Brookside (Women’s Speed Title Contender Semifinal)

With the newly NXT-exclusive Women’s Speed Championship on the line, this semifinal match delivered crisp, flying offense. LeRae, the seasoned former Speed champ, controlled with tight ring awareness and punctuated her victory with a springboard moonsault (or lionsault, per sources). Brookside pushed hard, but LeRae’s agility and experience carried her through. The result propels LeRae further toward No Mercy, where a showdown with Sol Ruca awaits in the tournament finals.

3️⃣

Jordynne Grace vs. Kali Armstrong (Non-Title)

In a physical, no-holds-barred non-title bout, Evolve Women’s Champion Kali Armstrong came bearing championship energy—only for Jordynne Grace to tap into full “Beast Mode” and put her away with authority. The match bled into chaos when Blake Monroe stormed the ring, but Grace flipped the script and left Monroe battered instead. The segment added layers: Armstrong’s loss puts her out of title contention, while Grace and Monroe’s tension suggests a coming storyline among allies turned rivals.

4️⃣

Josh Briggs vs. Andre Chase

Briggs followed his promo ambush by entering the ring for a more traditional bout with Chase. Despite early underdog resilience from Chase, Briggs overwhelmed him with a big boot and chokeslam finish. Then, he didn’t stop—sent Kale Dixon and Uriah Connors crashing post-match, solidifying himself as the bruising hammer of NXT’s midcard moving forward.

5️⃣

Main Event: Oba Femi, Ricky Saints, Hank Walker & Tank Ledger vs. DarkState (Eight-Man Tag)

This was the evening’s narrative centerpiece: NXT Champion Oba Femi and his top challenger Ricky Saints—partners by necessity—joined forces with ex-champs Hank & Tank to counter DarkState’s rising dominance. DarkState started strong, isolating Hank & Tank. But the true drama unfolded when Femi and Saints turned on each other backstage, undermining momentum. In their absence, Hank & Tank were near overwhelmed… until “HE SAID HIS NAME!” turned into reality—Joe Hendry jogged in, turning the tides. Renewed, Hank & Tank delivered a headbutt-powerslam combo to Cutler James and scored the three-count. The moment reinforced DarkState’s threat while giving Femi and Saints’ rivalry additional fuel—and Hendry’s unpredictable appearance brought meta humor and star intrigue to the mix. Closing shot: Femi and Saints still fighting backstage as the show fades out.

🤔

NXT delivered a smart, layered show. Wrestling economy was on point—early matches set up future storylines, midcard beats generated intrigue, and the main event had stakes, heat, and a twist that kept the momentum rolling into the next big events. Women’s action shone, with both speed and power grips. Briggs has momentum, and the Hendry-DarkState segment gives creative new pathways. The mix of action, character, and surprise elements (including crowd-teasing illusions) gave fans something to talk about—and built effective anticipation for the broadcast to crossover into Homecoming and No Mercy. Overall, NXT bounced back from Heatwave with clarity of purpose and fun unpredictability.
