Justice League: Throne of Atlantis – Commemorative Edition Review

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Bluray Combo I reviewed in this post.  The opinions I share  are my own.

Here is the official synopsis:

In Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, Cyborg discovers an imminent threat in the depths of the oceans so powerful that it rallies together the newly formed Justice League. Meanwhile, wandering thousands of feet above the ocean floor is drifter Arthur Curry, a man with strange powers who may be the last chance to bridge the ancient Atlantean world with our own. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League must band together as they face off against warmongering Orm, an army of sea creatures, otherworldly weapons and perilous odds. In this all-new epic adventure from the DC Universe, mankind’s only hope of escaping from the darkness lies with the guiding light of a man – Aquaman!

“We are thrilled to introduce this exciting new Justice League film to fans with the release of Justice League: Throne of Atlantis,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, WBHE Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing and Partner Brands. “As the Justice League saga continues to expand, fans are looking for exciting new adventures for this vibrant group of super heroes and this brand-new film is sure to deliver!”

We had the opportunity to see the film and here is your spoiler free review. One of the things we love about the direct to video DC series is that Warner Bros. constantly sets the bar high for their DC releases. Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is no different. They take incredible stories and translate them fantastically to video. This movie has everything a DC fan could want.  This 4K release is absolutely gorgeous and is nice to see the older classics get the 4K upgrade and hope we see more in the future.

I can’t stress enough how happy we are to see Aquaman finally get his origin story. The voice talent is staggering and they help bring this film to justice. The bonus features offers a few new special features with those details below.  Our favorite is the addition of Aquaman: The New King.  To be fair, there isn’t a bad bonus on these discs.

The only downside is the updated costumes used for certain JL members. While we know it is the direction DC has decided to take, we are reminded that just because you can make changes doesn’t necessarily mean you should. Aside from that, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will fit nicely in your collection.
